About The Position

The Surgical Technologist position at Aurora St. Luke's Medical Center is a full-time role that involves providing a clean, safe, and efficient area conducive to optimal patient care. The position requires the utilization of aseptic surgical techniques in the preparation of materials, supplies, and equipment for surgical procedures. Responsibilities include assisting with gowning and gloving, preparing and draping the surgical area, maintaining a sterile field, and anticipating the Surgeons' needs. The role also involves ensuring environmental disinfection, safety, and efficiency of the operating room, as well as functioning as a First or Second Assistant during surgeries. The position requires knowledge of various surgical procedures and the ability to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.

Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited or approved program in Surgical Technology.
  • Typically requires 2 years of experience in a Surgical Technologist position.
  • Completion of a suturing class approved by supervisor.
  • Proficient in all surgical specialties with expertise in a minimum of two.
  • Advanced knowledge and skill of aseptic surgical techniques.
  • Demonstrated ability to anticipate and recognize physician's needs.
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Basic computer proficiency.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred experience in Neuro/ENT specialty.

Responsibilities

  • Provides for a clean, safe and efficient area conducive to optimal patient care.
  • Utilizes aseptic surgical techniques in the preparation of materials, supplies and equipment for surgical procedures.
  • Assists with gowning and gloving; preparation and draping of the surgical area.
  • Maintains a sterile field, instruments, suture and related materials.
  • Anticipates the Surgeons' needs and passes instruments and/or supplies.
  • Holds retractors, observes and reports possible breaks in aseptic technique.
  • Assists in maintaining a sterile, dry, unobstructed field.
  • Ensures environmental disinfection, safety and efficiency of the operating room.
  • Sets up the room for each case including moving equipment.
  • Functions as a First or Second Assistant as necessary.
  • Notifies appropriate staff of equipment and supply problems.
  • Transports patients and/or equipment and supplies.
  • Maintains a specialty cart or item, ensuring its completeness and availability.
  • Acts as a resource and precepts Surgical Technologists I.
  • Performs various patient positioning and transporting duties.
