Requirements

  • Minimum 1 year relevant experience.
  • Certificate Program Post High School Vocational/Specialized Training.
  • Basic Life Support certification upon hire.
  • Certified Surgical Technologist certification upon hire or Licensed Practical Nurse upon hire.
  • Successful completion of a Surgical Technologist (ST) program sponsored by an entity holding nationally recognized institutional or programmatic accreditation.
  • Evidence and maintenance of ST certification from an accredited certification program upon hire.
  • Successful completion of appropriate training program for surgical technology in the United States Army, Navy, or Air Force upon hire.
  • Employment to practice surgical technology by the health care facility on or before December 29, 2020, or as the individual's primary function in another health care facility at any time during the two years immediately preceding December 29, 2020.

Responsibilities

  • Provide exceptional care to Open-Heart Surgery patients at a Level 1 trauma center, supporting 5 cardiac surgeons.
  • Handle 2-3 surgical cases per day, specializing in CABG, valve replacement, and ECMO.
  • Prepare the operating room for cases by setting up table, instruments and supplies according to type of case.
  • Prepare rooms between procedures and after terminal cleaning.
  • Monitor and restock supplies.
  • Drape patients for surgical procedures.
  • Assist the surgical team during operative procedures.
  • Assist in maintaining correct count of instruments, sutures and sponges.
  • Prepare patient skin for surgery in accordance with hospital standards.
  • Maintain aseptic techniques; actively monitor situations which could lead to breaches in aseptic technique.
  • Assist surgeons during operations by retracting tissues under direction.
  • Identify and care for specimens.
