About The Position

The position is for a Surgical Technologist at Aurora St. Luke's Medical Center, specializing in Neuro & ENT. The role is full-time, requiring 40 hours per week, with a schedule from 11:00 AM to 7:30 PM, Monday through Friday. The position includes on-call obligations, with 5-6 call slots from 10:30 PM to 7:00 AM and 1-2 24-hour weekend calls. A sign-on bonus of $10,000 is available, along with a $2,000 bonus for PM shifts. Training will begin on the day shift and transition to the intended shift after approximately three months. The pay range for this position is $26.10 to $39.15.

Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited or approved program in Surgical Technology.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) needs to be obtained within 6 months unless otherwise determined by the department leader.
  • Knowledge of aseptic surgical techniques used in the preparation of materials, supplies, and equipment for various surgical procedures.
  • Knowledge of various types of equipment used in the operating room.
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Basic computer proficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Provides for a clean, safe, and efficient area conducive to optimal patient care.
  • Utilizes aseptic surgical techniques in the preparation of materials, supplies, and equipment for surgical procedures.
  • Assists with gowning and gloving, preparation and draping of the surgical area, and provision of a sterile field.
  • Anticipates the Surgeons' needs and passes instruments and/or supplies.
  • Maintains a sterile, dry, unobstructed field during procedures.
  • Ensures environmental disinfection, safety, and efficiency of the operating room.
  • Sets up the room for each case, including moving equipment and operating various types of equipment used during procedures.
  • Functions as a Second Assistant as necessary.
  • Notifies appropriate staff of equipment and supply problems.
  • Transports patients and/or equipment and supplies.
  • Maintains a specialty cart or item, ensuring its completeness and availability.
  • Performs various patient positioning and transporting duties, which require lifting and pushing/pulling.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.
