About the position
Under direct supervision of a registered nurse, performs the duties of a primary or secondary surgical technologist in surgical procedures.
Responsibilities
- Creates and maintains sterile field.
- Anticipates and provides instrumentation and supplies necessary to perform surgery.
- Facilitates patient flow through case turnover.
- Performs environmental activities to maintain asepsis of operating room.
- Anticipates needs in instruments, sutures, sponges, and supplies according to technique procedure, and special requirements.
- Maintains correct sponge, needle, and instrument count with registered nurse and reports discrepancies as policy requires.
- Performs high level disinfection.
- Develops and demonstrates competency in specialty team cases and can serve as a preceptor.
- Demonstrates competencies in multiple specialties.
- Makes changes in surgeon's preference cards per surgeon requests to keep them current.
Requirements
- Graduate of a Surgical Technology Program accredited by ABHES or CAAHEP or by the State.
- Certified through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT).
- CPR certification.
- 0-2 years of related experience.
- Basic knowledge of aseptic technique.
- Ability to prepare and maintain a sterile field.
- Basic knowledge of surgical instrumentation.
