About The Position

We are looking for a Surgical Technologist I, someone who’s ready to grow with our company. In this position, you will handle instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during the surgical procedure, assisting the physician while performing related patient care duties in an age-appropriate manner as assigned by the circulating nurse (RN). Texas Children’s Pavilion for Women is a comprehensive obstetrics/gynecology facility and one of a select few hospitals nationwide that provides women, mothers and babies with a full continuum of high-quality, expert health care. Offering a full spectrum of maternal and fetal medicine services, including an array of fetal diagnostic procedures and highly specialized fetal surgeries, the Pavilion for Women is connected to Texas Children’s Hospital via a two-story circular sky bridge to enhance patient care by providing physicians, staff and patient families with rapid access to other pediatric subspecialists. Three private OB/GYN practices, The Family Fertility Center, The Menopause Center and The Women’s Place – Center for Reproductive Psychiatry are all housed here. Additionally, we also recently opened a community-based OB/GYN practice in Pearland.

Requirements

  • Educational program completion for surgical technologists which may include operating room/surgical training completed in the army, navy, air force, marine corps, or coast guard of the United States or in the United States Public Health Service
  • Required CST-SUR - Cert-Cert Surgical TECH by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting -OR- TSC-NCCT - Cert-TECH Surgery - Certified NCCT by the National Center for Competency Testing
  • Some experience as a Surgical Technologist preferred

Responsibilities

  • Prepares and assists with the preparation of the operating room according to the needs and age appropriateness of the patient and the surgical procedure as evidenced by the following, but not limited to: knowledge of surgical pathology as related to the planned surgical intervention; knowledge of allergies (awareness of high risk groups for latex allergy); knowledge and preparation of special equipment i.e., implants, prostheses, instrumentation per procedure/preference, and medications.
  • Anticipates surgeon needs and ensures efficient, safe, and high-quality workflow during procedures. Provides expert support during obstetric emergencies, including:
  • Postpartum hemorrhage
  • Emergency cesarean section (STAT C-section)
  • Uterine rupture
  • Operative vaginal delivery (forceps, vacuum)
  • Leads the management of OB surgical inventory, instruments, and supplies.
  • Acts as the on-shift resource for staff to support room readiness, stocking, and procedural flow.
  • Serves as preceptor for new technologists and cross-training staff.
  • Models high reliability behaviors and safe surgical practices
  • Knowledge of obstetrical surgical procedures, instruments, and sterile technique.
  • Familiarity with neonatal safety and L&D workflows.
  • Understanding of OB emergency response algorithms and equipment.
  • Adequate technical ability in cesarean section, hysterectomy, and post partum hemorrhage case setup and support.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills, especially under stress.
  • Effective communication and leadership presence without formal authority.
  • Ability to coordinate workflow among staff and serve as a resource.
  • Skilled in equipment troubleshooting and supply management.
