About The Position

Under direction, the Surgical Technologist assists in nursing care and the preparation of patients for surgery; assists in the operating room during surgery; and performs support duties to include the cleaning and maintenance of supplies, instruments, and sterilizers. In addition to a full-time work schedule, Surgical Technologists are required to be on-call at times where standby premium pay could apply.

Requirements

• Graduation from an accredited Operating Room Technician program performing duties comparable to those of an Operating Room Technician
• For Surgical Technologist II: One (1) year of experience as a scrub technician assisting with surgical procedures
• For Surgical Technologist III: Two (2) years of experience as a scrub technician assisting with surgical procedures
• Certification as a Surgical Technologist within the first year of employment
• Able and willing to work at Ventura County Medical Center and Santa Paula Hospital, when necessary

Nice To Haves

• Experience in a medical service delivery area
• Bilingual skills depending upon operational need and certification of skill

Responsibilities

• Prepares and opens surgical supplies in the operating room
• Maintains the sterile field, passes surgical instruments for surgeries often in anticipation of surgeon's needs
• Assists Circulating Nurse in the preparation of instrumentation, equipment and sterile supplies
• Directly assists the physicians and nurses during surgical procedures
• Prepares surgical suites, selects required equipment for next anticipated surgery
• Ensures safe patient handling to the ill
• Performs additional related duties as required
