About The Position

University Hospital houses 23 operating rooms (ORs) covering various service lines including Thoracic, General Surgery, Hepatobiliary, Urology, Gynecology, Orthopedics, Oral, Plastics, Ear, Nose, and Throat, as well as Abdominal Transplant (Liver, Kidney, Pancreas, Intestine, and Multivesicular). As an integral part of the Academic Health Center, our focus lies on high-acuity patient care, particularly emphasizing cancer-related treatments. We seek highly motivated individuals to join our collaborative team dedicated to delivering exceptional patient care. A Sign On Bonus is available for qualified candidates! This position is a day shift role working 7:00am-5:30pm, Monday-Friday. Requires 40 hours of call per 6-week schedule and Holidays.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED required; Associate's Degree preferred.
  • Certification as a Certified First Assistant obtained from the NBSTSA.
  • Certification as a Certified Surgical Technologist obtained from the NBSTSA.
  • Basic Life Support Certification.
  • Ability to resource advanced technology.
  • Documentation of 25 Contact Hours of Continuing Education.
  • Knowledge of name and function of surgical equipment and instrumentation.
  • Strict adherence to policies and regulations regarding maintenance of sterile field.
  • Minimum of 2 years relevant experience.

Responsibilities

  • Provide service and support as a clinical expert before, during, and after surgical procedures.
  • Ensure the presence and proper arrangement of surgical equipment, supplies, and instrumentation in the operating room prior to each operation.
  • Maintain readiness for emergency procedures at all times.
  • Provide first line assistance to the surgeon in the operating room as allowed by professional and legal standards.
  • Assist in positioning of the patient and the turnover of the operating room after the procedure.
  • Ensure proper routing and/or processing of all specimens, equipment, instrumentation, and supplies.
  • Work as a member of the surgical team with surgeons, anesthesiologists, registered nurses, and other surgical personnel.
  • Train colleagues on various skills and tasks.
  • Act as a resource or mentor to colleagues with less experience.
