About The Position

Under the direct supervision of a preceptor, Surgical Services Educator or department leadership provides surgical assistance in the operating room and assisting with departmental support activities following hospital and departmental policies, procedures, and standards of care.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent
• One day of job shadowing in the Operating Room
• BLS certification
• MedCerts online training – 288 hours
• In-Person OR simulation lab/sterile processing – minimum of 48 hours
• Completion of 125 cases with preceptor oversight.
• Apprenticeship program completed after successful completion of 125 cases.
• Certification as Tech in Surgery, TS-C (NCCT) within one year of completion of apprenticeship program.

Nice To Haves

• Surgical services or sterile processing experience
• Direct patient care experience.

Responsibilities

• Assists in preparing and setting up the operating room.
• Assists surgical team during operative procedures.
• Assists in terminal cleaning of operating rooms between cases and after the last case each day.
• Creates and maintains sterile field for surgical procedures.
• Assists with maintaining records, reports, and other documentation related to the work, including risk management and performance improvement reports.
• Seeks to improve quality of service by continuously developing individual and departmental competencies within scope of practice.
• Performs other related duties as required and directed.
