Our Ambulatory Surgery and Procedure Center has 10 operating rooms and 6 procedure rooms and last year we cared for just under 16,000 patients. The Surgical Technologist assists the surgical team in care of patients in the operating room by arranging supplies, implants, instruments, lights and other equipment while insuring sterility and cleanliness. Prepares patient for surgery, passes instruments during procedure, assists in post-operative cleanup and transfer of patient to recovery room. They will also provide patient care services appropriate to the age of the patients served during their shift of duty in collaboration with the OR RN. Adheres to standards of nursing practice and patient care, correct use of supplies/equipment and maintenance of the surgical suite in collaboration with an OR RN. No weekends, holidays or call work.

Requirements

  • 2 years of operating room experience with knowledge of AORN standards.
  • Ability to effectively use technology and medical/surgical terminology.
  • Knowledge of safe surgery processes.
  • Ability to work effectively with the surgical team and anticipate next steps.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, collaboration and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as scrub person during operative procedures
  • Anticipates surgeon’s needs
  • Supplies appropriate instruments, suture and specialty items.
  • Maintains aseptic technique during all sterile procedures.
  • Assures proper identification and handling of specimens.
  • Completes all required sponge, sharps and instrument counts.
  • Assists in transfer/positioning of patients.
  • Assures availability and proper functioning of supplies and equipment.
  • Assembles and adjusts equipment.
  • Cleans, replenishes and sterilizes instruments and supplies as needed.
