About The Position

Baylor Scott & White Temple is seeking a full-time Surgical Technician to join our Level One Operating Room Department. This position involves working with a skilled team on a variety of neuro, spine, and neurovascular procedures, including craniotomy, complex spine cases, and emergency stroke cases. The hospital is a 636-bed specialty care teaching hospital and the only Level 1 Trauma Center between Dallas and Austin. A sign-on bonus and relocation bonus are available.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited surgical technologist program.
  • 1 year of experience required, preferably in Neuro CST.
  • Certification as a Surgical Technologist (CST) from NBSTSA or NCCT.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or BLS within 30 days of hire.
  • Knowledge of infection prevention and regulatory sterilization standards.
  • Knowledge of human anatomy and surgical procedures.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in cranial, spine, and neuro endovascular procedures.
  • Completion of formal surgical technology training program in the U.S. military or Public Health Service.

Responsibilities

  • Discuss any special needs with the surgeon before surgery.
  • Scrub into surgery in time to prepare instruments before the surgeon scrubs in.
  • Prepare the operative site by aseptically cleaning and patient clipping, as needed.
  • Prepare and maintain the instrument table in an organized way.
  • Identify damaged or incomplete trays and rectify discrepancies immediately.
  • Set up the operating room based on surgical procedure schedules.
  • Arrange sterile setup of instrument table supplies and equipment for the specific procedure.
  • Ensure the proper functioning of surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies during surgical procedures.
  • Perform surgical counts of sponges, sharps, instruments, and miscellaneous items.
  • Anticipate the needs of the surgeon and surgical team staff.
  • Pass sterile supplies and equipment to surgeons and assistants.
  • Hold retractor devices and respond to the surgical team's needs during surgery.
  • Assist the surgical team with draping and positioning the patient.
  • Receive surgical specimens following protocol.
  • Assist with placement of surgical dressings to operative site following surgical case completion.
  • Disassemble surgical instruments at the end of the procedure.
  • Prepare soiled instrumentation for proper transportation to decontamination area.
  • Ensure the cleaning, decontamination, sterilization, maintenance, and preparation of surgical instruments.
  • Clean the operating room following each case and return equipment to appropriate storage areas.
  • Follow infection control policies, AORN Guidelines, OSHA guidelines, and other regulations.
  • Maintain inventory of clean and sterilized surgical equipment, instruments, and supplies.
  • Collaborate to control inventory maintenance.
