Specialties include general surgery, urology, dental, OMFS, neurosurgery, plastics, burns, ENT, and orthopaedics. Must possess technical knowledge and specialize in preparation and safe handling of instrumentation, equipment, and supplies for surgical procedures. Good organizational and communication skills are required.

Requirements

Requires 2 years of OR experience, must be a Certified Surgical Technologist or meet NYS requirements to be grandfathered in Public Health law 2824.
Must be a Certified Surgical Technician or meet NYS requirements to be grandfathered into Public Health Law 2824.

Responsibilities

Provides technical knowledge in preparing instruments, equipment and supplies for surgical procedures and assists the surgical team from the scrub position during an operation.
Responsible for proper care and handling of instruments and facilitating room turnover between cases.
Maintains sterile technique, safe handling of sharps and performance of surgical counts as per hospital policy.
Demonstrates proper handling of solutions and pharmacologic agents under direction of a registered nurse.
Serves as a patient advocate.
Functions as a preceptor to staff and students orienting to the operating room scrub position.
