About The Position

The Specialty Technologist position is a full-time role that involves assisting surgeons by providing basic instrumentation and sterile techniques for procedures performed in the Operating Room. The role also includes providing patient care and mentorship/training of surgical technologists in the clinical setting. Additionally, the Specialty Technologist is responsible for the care, handling, and maintenance of surgical equipment, instrumentation, and supply management. Another key responsibility is populating the STS Database or collecting other perioperative data for performance improvement.

Requirements

• GED or High School Diploma; Vocational Training.
• Graduate of surgical technologist program.
• Strong working knowledge of patient care and basic human needs throughout the life span.
• Strong working knowledge of anatomic structure and human body system.
• Strong working knowledge of acute and chronic disease processes.
• In-depth knowledge of medical terminology.
• Excellent verbal and written English communication skills, including presentation skills and report writing.
• Expert knowledge, use, and demonstration of standard precautions.
• Expert knowledge, use, and experience with aseptic and sterile technique.
• Experience training and precepting staff in Cardio-Thoracic surgery.
• Organization and time management skills including organizing, planning, and prioritizing work.

• Bachelor's degree in a related field.
