About The Position

The Surgical Technologist 2 is a trained individual with advanced technical knowledge and skills in asepsis and the intraoperative phase of surgical patient care management, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients. Based upon such expertise, the Surgical Technologist 2 is responsible for providing all the necessary instrumentation, supplies and equipment for the surgical procedure. The Surgical Technologist 2, as a member of the surgical team provides direct patient care under the direction and supervision of the circulating nurse (RN). Is responsible for meeting established OR standards for supplies and other equipment on the unit; is responsible for developing collaborative and collegial relationships with physicians and interdepartmental personnel as they relate to the care of the surgical patient. Job Description: Responsibilities: Reviews procedure cards/surgeon preference cards to determine needs in preparation for each surgical procedure Assists and collaborates with the circulating nurse to set up for surgical procedures with proper instrumentation, equipment and supplies Passes instruments and performing retraction for the surgeon at the sterile field as directed Anticipates needs of surgical team during the procedure and provides them with proper instruments, equipment, and supplies to meet these needs Assists in the care, cleaning, and maintenance of all general and specialty instruments, equipment, and supplies per established guidelines, policies, and procedures Collaborates with the Circulating nurse to insure the accuracy of all sponge, sharps, and instrument counts per established policies and procedures Responsible for application of the principles of asepsis to maintain integrity of the sterile field Assists in maintaining inventory of supplies in operating rooms and storerooms Assists in transport of patients and in movement or manipulation of equipment as required Communicates effectively Actively participates in performing the essential components of the WHO - Checklist, hand hygiene, and other department safety and quality initiatives Parallel Processing in collaboration with circulating nurse/ team staff to achieve/ maintain turnover goals and on-time starts Rotation to “on-call” for specified nights, weekends, and holidays Active participant in department projects Able to function independently in seven service lines Act as a preceptor to students and newly hired staff in two service lines Education and Experience: Graduate of an accredited school of surgical technology or equivalent experience 1+ year of experience Certification/License: Must meet all requirements to practice as a surgical technologist in Massachusetts. Certification obtained within one year of the completion of the accredited Surgical Technology program BCLS certification required Pay Range: $35.18 - $52.27 The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law. Compensation may exceed the base hourly rate depending on shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime pay, and other additional pay practices, as applicable to the position and in accordance with the law. Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of surgical technology or equivalent experience
  • 1+ year of experience
  • Must meet all requirements to practice as a surgical technologist in Massachusetts.
  • Certification obtained within one year of the completion of the accredited Surgical Technology program
