POSITION SPECIFICS Title: Surgical Technician – Student FTE: Per diem Schedule: Monday through Friday from 6:45 AM - 3:15 PM Holiday Rotation: None Weekend Rotation: None On Call Requirements: None POSITION SUMMARY Under the direction of a Surgical Technician, establishes and maintains a sterile field for surgical procedures meeting surgical standards. Prepares surgical suites and operating room staff during surgical procedures. Responsible for decontaminating, preparing, sterilizing, storing, and distributing sterile instruments/reprocessed supplies and assisting with patient and room prep in surgical area. POSITION TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITIES Assembles and prepares equipment, instruments, and supplies for all specialties using surgeon preference cards as a reference. Set up and maintain sterile field while anticipating and responding to the surgeon intra-operative needs. Functions as second assistant during surgical procedures. Understands and maintains current knowledge and practice of hospital policies and procedures. Assist with prepping and sterile draping of patients. Assist surgeons during procedures by passing instruments and holding retractors. Adhere to universal precautions. Assist with reprocessing and sterilization of all instruments. Assist with cleaning of equipment, surgical suites, and storage rooms. Order, fold, and store linens. Transport all sterile items to department. Assist with room turnover by removing trash and linen, mopping floor and putting equipment away. Order supplies as needed. POSITION REQUIREMENTS Education: Required: Current student in Surgical Technologist program, within 9 months of graduation.
