About The Position

The OR Tech is responsible for assisting with direct patient care activities in the Operating Room. This includes preparing and stocking the Operating Room before and after surgery, gathering clean and sterile supplies, setting sterile instrument fields, and maintaining and monitoring aseptic techniques. The role also involves assisting with proper positioning of patients while maintaining their privacy and dignity. Requirements

  • Graduate of an Accredited Surgical Tech Program
  • Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job
  • AHA Basic Life Support
  • Understanding of basic medical terminology
  • Must be able to read, write and communicate effectively in English
  • Computer literacy and proficiency
  • Hospital Fire and Life Safety Card (Los Angeles City Employees only)

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Surgical Tech
  • 6 months of previous of surgical tech experience

Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain the sterile field, and initiate corrective action when breaks occur.
  • Assist appropriately with patient treatments, turning and positioning as needed.
  • Ensure the Operating Room environment is safe; maintain patient privacy, room temperature and humidity.
  • Participate in and ensure time out and pre and post count processes are observed.
  • Demonstrate awareness of potential discomfort or injury; recognize critical deviations in patient condition and take appropriate action including intervening in situations where basic life support systems are threatened.
  • Ensure Infection Control procedures and HIPPA compliance.
  • Effectively utilize surgical preference cards, making and communicating changes as appropriate.
  • Appropriately assemble/handle tray preparation and instruments, and anticipate the need for instruments, equipment and supplies, ensuring their timely availability.
  • Ensure appropriate labeling, handling and transporting of specimens to the appropriate location and in the appropriate container.
  • Under the supervision of a licensed care provider, mix and label irrigation solutions.
  • Ensure proper functioning, care, and use of clinical equipment and supplies.
  • Perform quality checks and troubleshooting, and understand relationships between various equipment and the age related needs.
  • Perform high level disinfection/sterilization and ensure that infection control practices are strictly adhered to.
  • Orient and train others on the appropriate instrument/equipment use.
  • Dispose of all waste, sharps and specimens appropriately.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of environment of care and safety, including Operating Room emergencies.
  • Actively engage in caring behaviors, taking conscious ownership for work and taking proactive, deliberate, and thoughtful actions regarding work activities.
  • Demonstrate appropriate use of independent judgement and decision making.
  • Demonstrate excellent customer service at all times.
  • Ensure patients privacy and dignity at all times.
