The CST Apprenticeship Program is an entry-level training job reserved for surgical services (surgical technology track) students. The incumbent will be promoted to Surgical Technician once the course is completed and Surgical Technologist/Cert once the Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential from the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) is awarded. The Surgical Technician Apprentice must commit to working at TMH for two years after becoming a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST). The Surgical Technician Apprentice will receive training to: Clean, decontaminate, inspect, assemble, and sterilize reusable operating room (O.R.) medical devices. Provide general, non-technical assistance to nursing staff members. Assist surgeon by passing instrumentation and holding retractors. Establish and protect the sterile field during procedures. Performs cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) (when necessary).
