About The Position

The Surgical Technician Training Program at Ochsner Health is a 24-month program designed for individuals enrolled in an accredited surgical technology training program. The position involves learning and performing patient care administration under the supervision of a training instructor, completing specified clinical rotations, and fulfilling 3,000 hours of on-the-job training. The incumbent is expected to achieve competencies and learning milestones, ultimately preparing for the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) certification examination in Surgical Technology.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be enrolled in a designated accredited surgical technology training program within 30 days of hire.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association is required.
  • Proficiency in using computers, software, and web-based applications.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.

Nice To Haves

  • 1 year of experience in a similar medical setting.

Responsibilities

  • Commit to a schedule of 40 hours a week during the 24-month training program.
  • Assume responsibility to meet competencies and learning milestones outlined in the program.
  • Report to the program's designated training partner for theoretical instruction.
  • Designate time for crucial job training in designated departments while performing clinical rotations.
  • Complete face-to-face clinical theory instructions, simulation labs, and virtual learning platforms.
  • Adapt behavior to the specific patient population, ensuring respect for privacy and effective communication.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
