Our full-service, 357-licensed-bed hospital has served the community for more than 100 years with a variety of services including: Emergency Department; radiology; orthopedics; maternity, pregnancy and childbirth; behavioral health; imaging and lab; genetic counseling; daVinci robotic surgery. What You'll Do As a Surgical Tech you'll report to the Director of Patient Care and assist in the care of patients undergoing surgical intervention and assist in the care, preparation, and maintenance of sterile and unsterile supplies and equipment. The Surgical Technologist acts as a primary scrub person who handles the instruments, supplies and equipment necessary during the surgical procedure, anticipates the needs of the surgeon, has the necessary knowledge and ability to ensure quality patient care during the operative procedure has an understanding of procedures being performed, is consistently on vigil for maintenance of the sterile field. You will sometimes act as an unsterile member of the surgical team, obtaining instruments, supplies and equipment while the surgical procedure is in progress. You bring a familiarity in the use and maintenance of surgical instruments and supplies along with a thorough knowledge of surgical techniques used in routine and emergency procedures. You have a working knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy and physiology. The Surgical Tech has a thorough knowledge of asepsis and sterile technique, as well as preparation, including sterilization of surgical supplies and equipment. Requirements

  • Completion of a recognized school of surgical technology (based on State regulations effective July 1, 2009).
  • Must maintain 15 hours of continuing education annually.
  • Must obtain Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS/CPR) within 3 months of hire.
  • No previous experience is required working as a surgical technologist scrubbing OB/GYN specialty procedures.
  • If training occurred as on the job training, minimum 2 years, preferably 5 years, experience working as a surgical technologist required.
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS/CPR) required within 3 months of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain sterile technique and correct non-aseptic conditions
  • Perform surgical counts per policy
  • Anticipate surgeon needs and assist during procedures
  • Clean and reset rooms post-surgery
  • Stock supplies and linens
  • Prepare instruments for sterilization
  • Clean and organize patient rooms and department areas
  • Distribute supplies and equipment across units
  • Assist with post-delivery room cleanup
  • Assemble patient charts and chart packs
  • Answer phones and call lights, relay messages clearly
  • Maintain orderly storage and documentation areas
  • Report damaged equipment
  • Complete other assigned tasks and projects
