The listed minimum pay reflects compensation for a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) position. Actual compensation may differ depending on assigned hours and position status (e.g., part-time). Pay Range: $27.59 - $35.86 Position Overview ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Anticipates the needs of the surgeon, which includes passing instruments, sutures and other items appropriate to the procedure. Assists the surgeon by retracting tissue, holding instrumentation to provide exposure and cutting suture under the direct supervision of the surgeon. Establishes and maintains an organized sterile field. Selects proper sterilization methods for instruments and equipment; sterilizes prior to procedure, and verifies instruments are sterile. Adheres to policies and procedures in aseptic techniques. Takes corrective action when any unsafe practice, conditions or break in aseptic technique observed and reports information to the circulating nurse. Assists with pulling cases and checks case cart for completeness, obtains supplies and equipment and determines them to be in good working order before a case begins. Prepares the operating room by opening sterile supplies, instruments and sutures based on scheduled procedure and surgeon preference card. Follows policies for scrubbing, gowning, gloving, setting up back table, draping and counting with the circulating nurse. Performs scrub assistance for all procedures. Assists the circulating nurse with implementing a plan of care to include positioning, confirmation of operative site, updating physician preference cards, care of specimens, and room turnover. Accounts for instruments, trays, implants, before during and after the case. Begins Sterilizing process while in the surgical suite by counting for completeness of tray, initiating cleansing/sterilizing process. Monitors and accesses supplies in medication storage areas including needles and syringes.
