Under the general supervision, the Surgical Tech II performs the scrub role and maintains a safe sterile environment which includes preparing, passing, holding, inserting, removing, cleaning and assembly of instruments, equipment and supplies; counting sponges, needles, sharps and instruments; and assists the RN with delegated circulating duties, transporting, positioning, skin preps and specimen preparation in accordance with established hospital policies and procedures. Always works as a team member within the entire facility. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School graduate or equivalent required.
  • Graduate of a School of Surgical Technology.
  • Certification as a Surgical Tech preferred.
  • AHA BLS healthcare required within 30 days of hire, if not currently certified.

Nice To Haves

  • 1-2 years of experience in a surgical tech role.
  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties outlined in this job description.

Responsibilities

  • Perform the scrub role and assist with all aspects of the care of the surgical patient according to policy and procedure and care standards.
  • Take direction from others and follow through in a concise manner, promoting efficiency.
  • Communicate using written, verbal, and non-verbal skills when interacting with staff, physicians, and ancillary departments.
  • Set priorities and apply sterile and aseptic techniques.
  • Maintain knowledge of anatomy & surgical procedures.
  • Act to protect and advance the patient's best interest.
  • Maintain knowledge of equipment, expected patient outcomes, and anticipated complications.
  • Assist the RN with delegated circulating duties, transporting, positioning, skin preps, and specimen preparation.
