Surgical Tech Labor and Delivery $10,000 Sign on Bonus Shifts Available: Full time Night shift, Weekend day Shift ( Sat & Sun), Per Diem Highlights of the Surgical Tech Labor & Delivery The Surgical Tech at Mass General Hospital plays an important role in the operating room and is responsible for the preparation and maintenance of the operating room environment, as well assists with the peri-operative care of patients. They work closely with surgeons and nurses to ensure the smooth and efficient function of the operating room. A Surgical Tech must have a strong understanding of sterile techniques and be able to work quickly and accurately in a fast-paced environment. Our environment is fast-paced, energetic, collaborative, and innovative Unit is comprised of two operating rooms performing obstetrical surgeries. Requirements
- High School Diploma or Equivalent required
- Experience as a surgical technologist in an acute care setting 2-3 years required
- Knowledge of SPD Sterile Room.
- Ability to multitask, can work in a fast-paced clinical environment.
- Advanced knowledge of sterile processing procedures and policies.
- Familiarity with medical terminology and departmental supply items is required.
Nice To Haves
- Certified Surgical First Assistant [CSFA (NBSTSA)] - National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) preferred
- Certified Surgical Technologist [CST] - National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) preferred
- Four (4) years experience as a surgical technologist in an acute care setting; committee and leadership experience 3-5 years preferred
Responsibilities
- Prepare the operating room for surgical procedures.
- Set up sterile supplies, instruments, and equipment required for the surgery.
- Transport patients to the operating room, help with positioning on the surgical table, and ensure their safety and comfort during the procedure.
- Pass instruments, supplies, and equipment to the surgical team during procedures.
- Follow proper sterilization techniques to ensure the cleanliness and sterility of surgical instruments and supplies.
- Maintain accurate and complete documentation of surgical procedures, including counts of sponges, sharps, and instruments used.
- Collaborate effectively with surgeons, nurses, anesthesiologists, and other members of the surgical team.
- Assist in preparing the surgical site by applying sterile drapes and solutions.
- Secure and manage surgical drains and catheters as directed by the surgeon.
