About The Position

The position involves assisting surgeons, anesthesia personnel, Registered Nurses, and other professionals in the operating room, reporting to the Administrative Director. The role includes performing surgical scrub duties, patient positioning, and ensuring a sterile environment. The technician will work with cardiovascular surgeons and be responsible for the preparation and handling of surgical instruments and equipment.

Requirements

  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • American Heart Association BLS Card.
  • Certification from an approved Surgery Technician School.
  • Current Los Angeles County Fire Card (or must be obtained within 30 days of employment).
  • Assault Response Competency (ARC) required within 30 days of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum one (1) year recent experience in an acute care setting preferred.
  • Minimum one (1) year recent experience in OR/OB preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform in-room surgical scrub duties, patient positioning, and draping.
  • Set up sterile instruments and supplies.
  • Assist in preparation of surgical procedures by anticipating the needs of the physician.
  • Safely operate electrosurgical equipment, diagnostic equipment, microscope, laser equipment, video equipment, and disposable equipment.
  • Provide a safe, therapeutic environment for patients and families.
  • Work efficiently with physicians and RNs in various surgical procedures.
  • Maintain sterile technique and demonstrate knowledge of asepsis.
  • Assemble and troubleshoot all necessary equipment for procedures.
  • Ensure all necessary equipment is in the room prior to the start of a case.
  • Answer telephone calls in a prompt and courteous manner.
  • Perform efficiently in crisis and emergency situations.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of age-specific care.
  • Ensure an adequate stock of supplies and proper function of CV equipment.
  • Attend hospital-sponsored training programs as required.
  • Maintain CPR certification and OR Technician certification.
  • Monitor for and communicate breaks in technique.
  • Conduct accurate sponge, needle, and instrument counts with the RN.
  • Assist in the positioning of patients and monitor their safety.
  • Accept assignment as preceptor for new staff.
  • Demonstrate responsibility for cost containment and conservation of supplies.
  • Participate in staff meetings and in-services.
