About The Position

Orlando Health Dr. P. Phillips is seeking a Surgical Tech, First Assist to join our award-winning, full-service medical/surgical facility. The position is full-time with a shift of 4/10's between Monday and Friday, starting at 6am. The surgical department provides comprehensive care with 10 operating rooms and offers intraoperative services for various specialties including orthopedic, neurological, and general surgery. The role involves performing as the first assistant to the surgeon, demonstrating knowledge of anatomy and physiology, and ensuring optimal patient outcomes during surgical procedures.

Requirements

  • High School diploma.
  • Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program.
  • Successful completion of an accredited First Assistant training course.
  • National certification as Surgical Technologist (CST) or Tech in Surgery - Certified.
  • Current BLS/HealthCare Provider certification.
  • Three (3) years of recent diversified surgical technology experience.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates understanding of sterile techniques and specialized instrumentation for various procedures.
  • Anticipates and prioritizes needs during surgical procedures.
  • Participates in sponge, needle, and instrument counts as required.
  • Maintains surgical specimens for pathology evaluation.
  • Assists in ordering and stocking specialty supplies.
  • Performs under the direct supervision of the operating surgeon.
  • Communicates patient condition information to the RN and surgical team.
  • Maintains knowledge of all surgical procedures and assists the surgeon effectively.
  • Positions and drapes the patient, clamps and ties, cauterizes superficial bleeders, and provides exposure using retractors.
  • Maintains a dry field using suction equipment and follows and cuts sutures.
  • Demonstrates advanced proficiency in surgical technology practice.
