About The Position

The RNFA (Registered Nurse First Assistant) is responsible for assisting the surgeon in performing safe operations with optimal results for the patient. This role involves practicing peri-operative nursing, which includes independent nursing behaviors of peri-operative assessment and post-operative evaluation of care. The intra-operative practice of the RNFA is inter-departmental with the surgeon.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing is required.
  • Licensed Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of practice is required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.
  • First Assist experience is preferred.
  • Certified Perioperative Nurse (CNOR) certification is required for colleagues hired after April 24, 2024.
  • Successful completion of an RNFA program is required for colleagues hired after April 24, 2024.
  • In lieu of CNOR certification/RNFA program, an RN with Certified Surgical Technologist First Assist (CSTFA) certification and at least 2 years of OR experience as a first assist is acceptable, with the understanding that the colleague will obtain CNOR certification and enter an RNFA program within 6 months of eligibility.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the surgeon during operations to ensure patient safety and optimal outcomes.
