About The Position

This position is a Surgical Technologist Apprenticeship position, offered by the Singing River Healthcare Academy. The 1-year program consists of academics taught at the Singing River Healthcare Academy and Singing River Surgical Locations- Gulfport, Ocean Springs, and Pascagoula. The Apprentice must achieve Certification, followed by a 2-year commitment with Singing River as a Full Time Surgical Technologist. Throughout the program, the Surgical Technology Apprentice assists in the preparation of the operating room and accounts for all items required during the procedure, including all required instrumentation and sutures. He/She has an understanding of the procedure being performed, anticipates the surgeon's needs, and handles instruments, supplies, and necessary equipment for the surgical procedure. The Surgical Technology Apprentice ensures quality patient care through the practices of Aseptic Technique. The expectation is for all performed duties to be in accordance with Singing River Health System's procedures and policies, accreditation organization, and governing guidance and publications for health care employees. Requirements

  • Must be a High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Must maintain enrollment and good academic standing in Singing River Health System Surgical Technologist Apprenticeship program.
  • Required to complete and maintain BCLS certification upon hire and/or transfer.
  • Must demonstrate keen mental faculties/assessment and decision making abilities.
  • Must demonstrate superior communication/speaking/enunciation skills to receive and give information in person and by telephone.
  • Must demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must possess emotional stability conducive to dealing with high stress levels.
  • Must demonstrate ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to multi-task in complex situations is required.
  • Must have the ability to maintain collaborative and respectable working relationships throughout SRHS and other organizations
  • Must possess superior customer service skills and professional etiquette.
  • Must possess proficient knowledge and ability to use a computer (must be keyboard proficient) and other office technology (i.e., telephone, fax, etc.), MS Outlook and Word.
  • Must be able to demonstrate appropriate clinical judgment and apply appropriate professional skills to a patient population of all ages.
  • Job requires traveling throughout the SRHS service area with the employee providing his/her own transportation.
