About The Position

Provides hands-on experience and training while actively enrolled and participating in an accredited surgical technologist program. Supports the operating room and sterile processing while developing the knowledge and skills necessary to transition into a surgical technologist position upon program completion. Learn and adhere to sterile techniques and infection control protocols. Assemble and wrap smaller instrument sets and singles. Assemble basic general instrument sets. Organize Rigid containers for washing and use. Remove contaminated cases from elevator. Perform routine tasks such as stocking supplies and maintaining operating room organization. Participate in on-the-job training sessions and educational activities to enhance knowledge of surgical instrumentation and equipment. Exhibits ability to multitask. Consistently provides service excellence to all patients, family members, visitors, volunteers, and co-workers. Performs other work-related duties and activities as assigned or requested by his/her supervisor. Observe surgical technologists in setting up instruments, supplies, and equipment for surgical procedures. Transport patients as needed, ensuring safety. Delivers and returns appropriate equipment to each operating room, to include but not limited to, stirrups, suction machines, towers, step stools, positioning aides with D&C machine and TPS consoles. Assists in the care, handling, and delivering to and from the Operating Rooms of delicate, sophisticated, expensive equipment such as microscopes and specialty equipment. Maintains patient safety by ensuring that beds and stretchers remain locked during patient transfer and bed rails are up at all times. Assists with room cleaning and turnover as assigned or directed. Works effectively with other staff as a member of the surgical team. Demonstrates initiative to keep areas clean, orderly and free from trash and clutter. Demonstrates ability to prioritize tasks according to urgency. Exhibits ability to multitask. Consistently provides service excellence to all patients, family members, visitors, volunteers, and co-workers. Performs other work-related duties and activities as assigned or requested by his/her supervisor.

Requirements

  • Minimum of High School Diploma/GED or higher
  • Must be enrolled in an accredited Surgical Technologist degree program.
  • CCHC Medical Terminology Exam (or proof of course, prior to start date)
  • BLS Required
  • Ability to read, write and communicate in English
  • Basic Computer skills
  • Good interpersonal skills, being concise by phone, intercom and in person
  • Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to follow precise instructions
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with healthcare professionals

Nice To Haves

  • Upon completion of an accredited Surgical Technologist degree program, candidate will be moved into a Grade 17 Surgical Technologist position
  • Physical ability to stand for long periods, lift and transport equipment, and perform repetitive tasks
  • Experience working within a healthcare setting
