The Surgical Support Technician I (SST I) is responsible for performing and facilitating the setup and breakdown of Operating Room (OR) surgical rooms. This novice-level position involves a variety of tasks aimed at ensuring the smooth operation of surgical procedures and maintaining patient safety. The SST I will sort and dispose of contaminated materials according to hospital guidelines, transport patients to and from surgery while providing comfort and addressing any concerns. The role requires a demonstration of infection control principles and aseptic techniques, as well as an understanding of the normal growth and development across various age groups, including pediatric, adolescent, adult, and elderly populations. The SST I will work cooperatively with the surgical team and must be competent in advanced level case assignments and equipment usage. Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, surgical procedures, and terminology is essential. Effective communication skills in English, both verbal and written, are required, along with the ability to think critically, work independently, manage multiple assignments, and maintain attention to detail. The position also includes housekeeping duties, such as cleaning surfaces and equipment in the OR, collecting and discarding hospital waste, and ensuring the readiness of assigned rooms for surgical cases. Other duties may be assigned as needed.
