The Surgical Support Technician (SST I) at the Outpatient Surgery Center is responsible for performing and facilitating the setup and breakdown of operating room (OR) surgical rooms. This role includes sorting and disposing of contaminated materials per hospital guidelines, transporting patients to and from surgery while providing comfort and reporting concerns as needed, and demonstrating infection control principles and aseptic techniques. The SST I must understand the normal growth and development across various age groups and work cooperatively with the surgical team. Competency in advanced level case assignment and equipment use is required, along with knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, surgical procedures, and terminology. Effective communication skills, critical thinking, and the ability to manage multiple assignments under pressure are essential. The role also involves ensuring the readiness of assigned rooms and maintaining patient safety through cleaning and housekeeping duties.
