About the position

The position actively supports the daily operations of supply chain functions within Surgical Services and all procedural areas. The role involves monitoring stock and orders at established par levels to prevent shortages and expedited shipping fees. The individual will work closely with department leadership and designee(s) to identify replacement items for back orders and desired alternatives. Data entry to order surgical supplies and ensuring items are appropriately charged or credited from stock to the unit, department, or patient account is a key responsibility. Additionally, the position requires creating and maintaining the surgical services supply items in the item master across various electronic systems utilized by the Health System. The individual will also maintain inventory listings, order guides, and product labeling for assigned areas, establishing appropriate par levels to ensure clinical availability in a fiscally responsible manner.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor stock and orders at established par levels to prevent shortages and expedited shipping fees.
  • Work with department leadership to identify replacement items for back orders and desired alternatives.
  • Perform data entry to order surgical supplies and ensure items are appropriately charged/credited from stock to the unit, department, or patient account.
  • Create and maintain surgical services supply items in the item master in various electronic systems.
  • Maintain inventory listings, order guides, and product labeling for assigned areas.
  • Establish appropriate par levels to ensure clinical availability in a fiscally responsible manner.
  • Work with surgical services leadership and physicians in ordering medical and surgical products via established processes.
  • Review surgical posting sheets and procedural schedules daily to ensure supplies and equipment are stocked for cases.
  • Coordinate supplies and equipment needs with surgical services leadership/designee(s).
  • Prepare and distribute surgical case carts according to physician preference lists and anticipated needs.
  • Respond to requests from clinical team members by delivering commodities to surgery or the requesting department.
  • Assist with daily, annual, and periodic inventory counts following established processes.
  • Inventory, receive, monitor, and distribute surgical supplies as needed for patient care.
  • Monitor supply par levels, package/supply integrity, and expiration dates, arranging for alternative items as necessary.
  • Coordinate with surgical services team for recalled products, researching and removing products as necessary.
  • Assist with long-term and short-term special projects as assigned by procedural services and supply chain leadership.
  • Exhibit positive interpersonal skills with internal and external customers, promoting teamwork among staff.

Requirements

  • Experience in supply chain management or inventory control, preferably in a healthcare setting.
  • Strong data entry skills and proficiency in electronic inventory management systems.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with clinical teams and leadership.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous experience in surgical services or operating room supply management.
  • Familiarity with medical and surgical products and their usage in clinical settings.
  • Knowledge of inventory management best practices.
