Performs patient care activities in the CVOR to assist the registered nurse or physician.

Requirements

High School diploma/GED or 10 years of work experience
One year of experience as a CVOR surgical technologist
Basic Life Support HealthCare Provider (BLS HCP) - American Heart Association (AHA)
Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) - National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) Or Tech in Surgery - Certified - National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) Or National Registered Surgical Technician (NRST) - American Allied Health Association (AAH)

Responsibilities

Coordinates cardiovascular operating room (CVOR) shift operations including scheduling, assigned activities, and resources.
Serves as a technical or functional resource for staff and performs similar duties.
Assigns, monitors, and reviews progress of work.
Monitors and reports compliance with policies and procedures.
Oversees and evaluates orientation and training of assigned CVOR employees.
Anticipates and plans individualized care for the patient based on advanced knowledge of the CVOR surgical case and anticipates unexpected patient and surgeon needs.
Assists CVOR surgical cases by running the table and assisting the surgeon at an expert level utilizing the principles of surgical asepsis, infection control, universal precautions, and life safety.
Maintains an orderly and organized work environment and takes responsibility for the maintenance and care of specialty equipment and assists the team to meet both quality and efficiency outcomes.
Demonstrates expertise in the operation and function of instrumentation and equipment for cases in the CVOR.
Maintains all specialty instrument sets, understands appropriate sterilization methods, and acts as a resource and mentor to non-specialty staff on specialty equipment and instrumentation.
May provide input for hiring, training, leading, and evaluating staff.
Works in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
Performs other duties as assigned.
