Job Summary: Performs patient care activities in the cardiovascular operating room (CVOR) as assigned to assist the registered nurse or physician.

Requirements

  • High School diploma/GED or 10 years of work experience
  • Six months' experience as a CVOR surgical technologist or two years' of surgical technologist experience
  • Basic Life Support HealthCare Provider (BLS HCP) - American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) - National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA)
  • Tech in Surgery - Certified - National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)
  • National Registered Surgical Technician (NRST) - American Allied Health Association (AAH)

Responsibilities

  • Anticipates and plans individualized care for the patient based on advanced knowledge of the cardiovascular operating room (CVOR) surgical case and anticipates unexpected patient and surgeon needs.
  • Assists CVOR surgical cases by running the table and assisting the surgeon at an expert level utilizing the principles of surgical asepsis, infection control, universal precautions, and life safety.
  • Maintains an orderly and organized work environment and takes responsibility for the maintenance and care of specialty equipment and assists the team to meet both quality and efficiency outcomes.
  • Demonstrates expertise in the operation and function of instrumentation and equipment for cases in the CVOR.
  • Maintains all specialty instrument sets, understands appropriate sterilization methods, and acts as a resource and mentor to non-specialty staff on specialty equipment and instrumentation.
  • Works in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
