About The Position

A regional healthcare facility is seeking a Surgical Services Manager / OR Scrub Nurse for a 13-week contract assignment. Under the direction of the Chief Nursing Leadership , this role is responsible for overseeing the Surgical Services Department , ensuring the delivery of safe, effective, and age-appropriate patient care. The position combines clinical leadership and hands-on surgical support , including scrubbing in for general and orthopedic procedures when needed. The candidate will play a key role in department operations, staff coordination, regulatory compliance, and emergency response , while supporting the organization’s mission, vision, and standards of patient care.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license – State of Maine
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) – Required
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) – Required (may be obtained within 6 months of hire)
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) – Required (may be obtained within 6 months of hire)
  • CNOR Certification – Required
  • Minimum 3 years of perioperative nursing experience
  • Experience working in Operating Room (OR) environments
  • Ability to scrub in for general and orthopedic surgeries
  • Strong clinical knowledge of the nursing process and age-appropriate patient care
  • Advanced computer and documentation skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Effective organizational and time-management abilities
  • Conflict resolution and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and lead surgical teams
  • Ability to respond quickly and efficiently during emergencies

Responsibilities

  • Manage and oversee the Surgical Services Department .
  • Direct and coordinate age-appropriate patient care activities within the surgical unit.
  • Make administrative decisions in alignment with established healthcare policies, procedures, and standards of care .
  • Maintain departmental efficiency and ensure compliance with regulatory and clinical guidelines .
  • Support and promote the organization’s mission, vision, and values .
  • Assist in general and orthopedic surgeries by scrubbing in when required.
  • Respond rapidly and effectively in emergency situations .
  • Maintain strict patient confidentiality and professional standards .
