About the position

The Surgical Services Educator at Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital is a full-time position responsible for developing, implementing, and leading evidence-based educational programs for nursing personnel. This role requires a Master's Degree in Nursing or a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing with a Master's Degree in Education or a related field. The educator will primarily work in Surgical Services, Cath Lab, and IR, and must have operating room nursing experience. The position is primarily day shift but requires flexibility. The educator will utilize advanced nursing knowledge to bridge gaps in practice through educational interventions, data collection, and program evaluation.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and lead evidence-based educational programs for nursing personnel.
  • Conduct needs assessments to identify gaps in professional practice.
  • Analyze cost and anticipated return on investment for educational programs.
  • Create context-specific outcomes based on stakeholder values and current evidence.
  • Design educational materials and programs incorporating adult learning theories.
  • Evaluate the outcomes of staff education and implement various teaching strategies.
  • Mentor and support nursing staff across different learning and practice environments.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Nursing, or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing and Master's Degree in Education or related field.
  • Typically requires 3 years of experience in a clinical nursing role with adult teaching or training experience.
  • Must have operating room nursing experience.
  • Registered Nurse license issued by the state of practice.
  • Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) certification or Nursing Professional Development (RN-BC) certification to be obtained within 6 months.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong presentation and negotiation skills.
