As a team member, you help fulfill our mission to make life better here for our community. The Surgical Technologist addresses the readiness of surgical instruments/equipment in the Operating Suite. They are responsible for collaborating with surgeons, RN’s, and other perioperative staff to ensure a successful patient outcome. Requirements

High school diploma or GED
BLS certification (can be obtained within 3 months of employment)
Fluent in English
PC literate
Ability to meet physical demands as stated in - “Physical Demands and Environmental Work Conditions” at the end of this purpose description
Knowledge of inventory maintenance and control
Excellent human relations/communication skills
One (1) year work experience, preferably in a health care setting
Must be a strong team player

Responsibilities

Manages own time and work to assure readiness for patient care
Understands and follows through with directions from appropriate sources
Maintains BLS certification and other Anesthesia equipment-related skills
Follows unit/hospital policies and procedures
Maintains positive working relationship with peers, customers, and physicians
Maintains close liaison and rapport with other hospital departments
Forwards special requests/capital requests to OR Manager/Anesthesia for processing
Works calmly and efficiently in stressful or emergency situations
Responsible for Anesthesia equipment in various hospital locations: OB, DSU, X-ray, etc.
Assists anesthesia with prepping of patients prior to their surgical procedure, (i.e. assist with block placements, intubations etc.)
Assists anesthesia and surgical team in preparing the surgical suite for procedures - this includes set up for new cases, being available to the team for patient care, (i.e. positioning, prepping) and clean up after cases.
Prior to the start of the procedure and during the procedure the Anesthesia Technician is accessible by phone should additional supplies or equipment be needed.
Maintains and cares for equipment and instruments using proper cleaning and sterilization methods – reporting repairs and needed maintenance to the appropriate parties as they arise
Stocking of departmental supplies as determined by procedure volumes and anticipated usage in scheduled procedures
Confirms all carts, supplies, machines and equipment are fully stocked and in working order prior to leaving each day
Floats to unit secretary, unit scheduler and surgical care assistant position as deemed necessary by staffing situations
