About The Position

The Surgical Scheduler plays a crucial role in coordinating operating room schedules to ensure efficient use of resources, including staff and equipment. This position involves working closely with physician offices and patients to gather necessary information for scheduling surgeries, while also managing electronic medical records and ensuring compliance with department guidelines.

Requirements

  • High School diploma equivalency OR 1 year of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a medical office or hospital setting, preferably in surgical services scheduling.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology, especially related to surgical procedures, required.
  • Experience using electronic medical records (EMR) systems and surgery scheduling software is strongly preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills, with experience interacting with surgeons, patients, and healthcare staff.
  • Ability to handle confidential patient information in compliance with HIPAA regulations.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience working in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary team environment is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate OR surgery schedules to maximize efficient use of operating rooms, equipment, and staff.
  • Work with physician offices to gather information needed to schedule surgeries consistent with department guidelines and accommodating physicians' requests and patients' needs.
  • Assign operating suites and equipment and block times to maximize efficient use of resources.
  • Ensure that necessary demographic, billing, and insurance information is entered into electronic medical records and coordinate with Patient Admitting as needed to prevent delays in scheduled surgery.
  • May reschedule surgeries as needed to accommodate emergencies or other unanticipated events.
