About The Position

South Asheville Veterinary Emergency & Specialty in beautiful Asheville, NC is hiring a full-time Registered Veterinary Technician to join our outstanding Surgery team! At South Asheville Veterinary Emergency & Specialty (SAVES), our goal since opening in 2009 has been to practice the gold standard of medicine, perform advanced techniques, and be leaders in veterinary specialty and emergency care. We are seeking a full-time Registered Veterinary Technician to join our Surgery team. This role is ideal for technicians who thrive in advanced medicine, enjoy working alongside skilled surgeons, and take pride in delivering exceptional patient and client care.

Requirements

  • Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT/LVT/CVT) or experienced technician with a minimum of 3 years in emergency or specialty medicine (advanced anesthesia experience required, ASA 3–5)
  • Strong communication and client service skills
  • Proficient in animal restraint, venipuncture, peripheral catheter placement, and medication administration
  • Able to lift at least 35 pounds and stand for extended periods
  • Willing to participate in mandatory on-call and holiday rotations
  • Fluent English skills (speaking & reading) required; multilingual skills a plus

Responsibilities

  • Work hands-on with advanced surgical and diagnostic procedures, including high-risk anesthesia cases (ASA 3–5).
  • Partner closely with surgeons by anticipating needs, preparing patients, and supporting complex procedures with precision and care.
  • Utilize sophisticated diagnostic tools, including CT imaging and contrast studies.
  • Serve as a key liaison between doctors and clients by preparing estimates, providing patient updates, coordinating discharges, and supporting continuity of care.
  • Play an integral role in maintaining accurate medical records, managing lab results, and assisting with short-term case management.
  • Be part of a collaborative specialty team committed to medical excellence and compassionate care.
  • Anesthesia induction, intubation, and monitoring
  • Surgical and sterile clip & prep
  • Maintaining sterile fields and technique
  • Identifying and setting up surgical instruments
  • Draping patients and preparing instrument tables
  • Performing anesthetic blocks
  • ECG/EKG monitoring
  • CT imaging and contrast studies
