About The Position

The position involves providing surgical assistance in the operating room for various surgical specialties, including Orthopedics, Vascular, Plastic, General surgery, and complex specialties such as Bariatrics, GYN/ONC, Thoracic, or Davinci Robotic surgery. The role requires performing daily post-operative rounds, coordinating patient care, and conducting admission history and physical examinations. The individual will also perform bedside procedures and provide guidance to surgical PA students and new graduates. The position supports quality initiatives and requires the ability to work independently as a surgical provider in a hospital setting.

Requirements

• Must possess clinical skills and critical thinking to manage acutely and severely ill inpatients.
• Ability to work independently as the surgical provider in the hospital.
• Must be able to lift 35 lbs and bend body downward at waist.
• Required to have close visual acuity.
• Must be available for weekends, nights, and on-call hours.

Responsibilities

• Provides surgical assistance in the operating room for at least 2 surgical specialties and 2 complex specialties.
• Obtains and maintains Davinci First Assist Certification.
• Performs daily post-operative rounds and coordinates care of the patient as requested by the supervising physician.
• Performs admission history and physical examinations, daily progress notes, and discharge summaries.
• Evaluates patients in the Emergency Department and on the surgical floor.
• Performs bedside procedures including incision and drainage, central venous catheter placement, and others when credentialed.
• Provides instructions and guidance as a preceptor to surgical PA students and new graduates.
• Supports Quality initiatives of Holy Cross Hospital.
• Supports timely, accurate, and compliant professional billing.
