The practice of a Physician Assistant shall include medical services within the education, training & experience of the PA that are delegated by the supervising physician. Medical services rendered may include but are not limited to obtaining patient histories & performing physical examinations; ordering &/or performing diagnostic & therapeutic procedures; formulating a diagnosis; developing & implementing a treatment plan; monitoring the effectiveness of therapeutic interventions; assisting in surgical procedures; offering counseling & education to meet patient needs; making appropriate referrals. The Surgical Physician Assistant, in an emergency, shall be authorized to treat any medical disease &/or perform any medical & surgical procedures at the hospital for affiliates. An emergency, for these purposed, is defined as a situation in which any delay in administering treatment would result in serious harm to the patient or an immediate threat to life of the patient & that a qualified practitioner is not immediately available. The activities listed above may be performed in any setting authorized by the supervising physician, including but not limited to, clinics, hospitals, ambulatory surgical centers, & other institution settings. In addition to the Core Skills listed here, Surgical PA’s will request validation to perform department specific skills.
