About The Position

The Physician Assistant II will work in a team structure to provide surgical assistance in the operating room as assigned by the PA Coordinator/designee. Responsibilities include performing daily post-operative rounds, conducting admission history and physical examinations, writing daily progress notes, and facilitating care coordination as requested by the supervising physician. The PA will also perform bedside procedures such as central venous catheter placement and tube thoracostomy when credentialed. Additionally, the PA will support quality initiatives and ensure timely, accurate professional billing, all while upholding the mission of Trinity Health and Holy Cross Hospital.

Requirements

  • Ability to work in both the operating room and inpatient units.
  • Current licensing as a Physician Assistant in the State of Maryland.
  • Qualification for prescriptive authority.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to function well in a team environment.
  • ACLS certification.
  • Proficiency or capability to become proficient in bedside procedures including central line and A-line placement, chest tube placement and PICC insertion.

Responsibilities

  • Perform the duties of the surgical PA.
  • Provide surgical assistance in the operating room as assigned by the PA Coordinator/designee.
  • Perform daily post-operative rounds and follow-up with the attending surgeon.
  • Conduct admission history and physical examinations, daily progress notes, daily orders, and discharge summaries for patients.
  • Evaluate patients in the Emergency Center and on the surgical floor at the request of the attending surgeon.
  • Write history and physical exams, orders, daily progress notes, and facilitate/coordinate care of the patient.
  • Dictate discharge, transfer and death summaries, and write transfer orders and prescriptions as requested by the supervising physician.
  • Perform bedside procedures including central venous catheter placement, tube thoracostomy, arterial catheter placement and PICC insertion.
  • Support Quality initiatives of Holy Cross Hospital including medication reconciliation and electronic documentation.
  • Support timely, accurate and compliant professional billing.
