Under the direction of a supervisor and/or lead, the position involves receiving and accessioning specimens, performing basic specimen handling, gross dissection and dictation of routine biopsies, processing and loading specimens onto testing instruments, assisting in instrument maintenance, archiving samples after analysis, and responding to inquiries regarding specimens from internal and external departments. The role also includes monitoring equipment and temperature readings, assisting and performing frozen sections for rapid intraoperative diagnosis, completing assignments with accuracy and in a timely manner without compromising the quality of the patient sample, and performing a variety of clerical duties. Additionally, the position requires participation in pre-clinical test development, training, and ad-hoc projects as directed, as well as answering phones, faxing results upon request, and aiding in report distribution. The individual will assist in the training of new employees and/or students as needed, exercise good judgment in recognizing and correcting irregularities, and perform other miscellaneous duties or special projects as assigned, while complying with all aspects of the job according to written procedure.
