The Cedars-Sinai Medical Care Foundation is seeking an experienced Surgical Physician Assistant to join our affiliate, Santa Monica Orthopedic Group (SMOG) in Pasadena. The Surgical Physician Assistant plays a crucial role in Cedars-Sinai Medical Group's commitment to delivering high-quality healthcare services efficiently. Working in collaboration with our physicians and staff, the Surgical Physician Assistant will share responsibility for the well-being of our patients. Cedars Sinai SMOG is a highly respected and progressive orthopaedic group dedicated to quality patient care, cutting-edge research and comprehensive patient education. We are seeking a Physician Assistant who will provide health care services to patients under direction and responsibility of Physician by performing the following duties: ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Examines patient, performs comprehensive physical examination, and complies patient medical data including health history and results of physical examination. Under the direction of Dr. John Itamura who specializes in elbow arthroscopy and reconstruction, periarticular fractures of the shoulder and elbow as well as primary and revision elbow arthroplasty, you will assist in conducting patient assessments, provide pre-op and post-op assessments, including treatment plans. Serve as first assistant in the operating room 2 days a week (Tuesdays and Thursdays) plus 2-3 days in busy clinic. Ideal candidate will have excellent suture skills equal to that of the surgeon, knowledge of anatomy of all cases, knowledge of latest surgical techniques and ability to contribute intelligent input into the surgical procedures. Work under protocol to develop an effective, safe, and patient-centered treatment plan Provide timely and complete clinical documentation in the EHR following patient visits or telephone calls. Maintain ongoing communication with the physician regarding assigned patients and provide timely notification of changes in patient status. Maintain ongoing communication with other members of the care team through written documentation, telephone or in-person conversation. Ensure timely access of patient appointments. Ability to read x-rays and laboratory studies. Lateral mobility skills are required for success in this role. Debridement, suturing, removal of casts and traction skills are equally important to your success in this role as well. This is a highly visible position requiring a very energetic individual with the ability to thrive in a very busy, high volume environment managing patients who require revision surgery after undergoing a failed prior surgery. At least 60% of Dr. Itamura's patients have had previous or even multiple prior surgeries. If you enjoy research, you will have an opportunity to be a part of Dr. Itamura’s research activities and get published. Dr. Itamura performs highly complex reconstruction surgery, so you must possess the ability to perform very thorough exams and take very critically precise notes and documentation. Core hours are 8 am – 5 pm, Monday to Friday with flexibility to work extended hours as needed
