The Surgical First Assistant provides aid in exposure, hemostasis, closure and other intraoperative technical functions that help the surgeon carry out a safe operation with optimal results for the patient. In addition, performs preoperative and post operative duties to better facilitate proper patient care. Performs these functions during the operation under direction and supervision, and in accordance with LCMC policies, procedures, guidelines and regulations. Your Everyday: Quality: Under direct supervision, assists with positioning the patient, providing visualization of the operative site. Utilizes appropriate techniques to assist with closure of body planes. Selects and applies appropriate wound dressings and provides assistance with securing drainage systems to tissue. People: Under direct supervision, participates in volume replacement or auto transfusion techniques as appropriate. Service: Works and acts as a team player in support of the department and hospital's strategic goals.

  • Assists with positioning the patient, providing visualization of the operative site.
  • Utilizes appropriate techniques to assist with closure of body planes.
  • Selects and applies appropriate wound dressings and provides assistance with securing drainage systems to tissue.
  • Participates in volume replacement or auto transfusion techniques as appropriate.
  • Works and acts as a team player in support of the department and hospital's strategic goals.
  • 5-7 years of supervised experience in surgery and institutional training in the field of surgical technology.
  • Diploma/degree from an accredited Surgical First Assist program
  • Valid license as an RN/LPN or PA if applicable
  • Certification through the National Surgical Assistant Association (NSAA) or Surgical Assistant - Certified (SA-C) through the American Board of Surgical Assistants (ABSA)
