In this role, you will position patients for surgical procedures, ensuring optimal exposure, comfort, and safety. You will provide visualization of the operative site through various methods, including tissue manipulation, retraction, sponging, suctioning, and irrigation. The role also involves utilizing appropriate techniques for temporary and permanent hemostasis, assisting with body plane closure, applying wound dressings, and securing drainage systems. Additionally, you will help with room clean-up and the removal of soiled case carts, supplies, and trash after surgical cases, and participate as a surgical team member in preparing the surgical suite according to surgeon's preference cards with the necessary instruments, resources, and supplies.

Requirements

  • BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
  • Surgical Assistant credentialed from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) obtained within 12 Months (1 year) of hire date or job transfer date.
  • Surgical Assistant credentialed from the American Board of Surgical Assistants (ABSA) obtained within 12 Months (1 year) of hire date or job transfer date.
  • High School diploma equivalency with 2 years of cumulative experience OR Associate's degree/Technical degree OR 4 years of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.

Nice To Haves

  • Surgical Assistant credentials from NBSTSA
  • Two years surgical technology experience

Responsibilities

  • Position patient to give best exposure for surgical procedure, using stabilizing equipment when necessary, while maximizing patient comfort and safety.
  • Provide visualization of the operative site using appropriate method, including manipulation of tissue and materials, retraction, sponging, suctioning and irrigation.
  • Utilize appropriate technique to achieve temporary and permanent hemostasis.
  • Assist with body plane closure, application of wound dressings and securing of drainage systems.
  • Assist in room clean up and the removal of the soiled case cart, supplies, and trash from OR room as needed at the completion of the surgical case.
  • Participate as a surgical team member in the preparation of the surgical suite according to surgeon's preference cards with appropriate instruments, resources, and supplies.
