About The Position

The University of Kentucky (UK) Lung Transplant Program is seeking a Surgical Director of Lung Transplantation to lead its program and make a significant impact on the lives of patients and their families. This role offers a unique opportunity to be at the forefront of lung transplantation, leading a team of three lung transplant surgeons and six transplant pulmonologists within the state's largest transplant center. The Surgical Director will be responsible for overseeing the lung transplant program, ensuring the delivery of high-quality care, and advancing the field through clinical trials and research. The UK Transplant Center is a mission-driven, world-class program that has successfully completed over 500 life-saving lung transplants. The center specializes in both single-lung and double-lung transplants for adults and children suffering from various life-limiting lung diseases, including chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), pulmonary fibrosis, cystic fibrosis, coal worker pneumoconiosis, pulmonary hypertension, and sarcoidosis. The Surgical Director will have the opportunity to perform leading-edge transplant techniques, including ECMO and ventilator bridges, and utilize advanced technologies such as OCS Lung, LungGUARD, and Lung Bioengineering. In addition to clinical responsibilities, the Surgical Director will have access to the resources of an NIH Center for Clinical and Translational Science, allowing for the development of new therapies and participation in groundbreaking research.
