About The Position

The Surgical Coordinator at Methodist Health System serves as the primary point of contact for patients, ensuring effective communication and a smooth surgical pathway from initial contact through to surgery. This role is crucial in maintaining patient engagement, managing insurance processes, and facilitating the necessary medical clearances for surgical procedures. The coordinator supports the organization's mission and strategic plans while promoting a collaborative environment among staff and patients.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Very strong proficiency using Microsoft Office products.
  • Superior oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong process orientation.
  • Demonstrated capability to interface and maintain effective relationships in a team-oriented environment.

Responsibilities

  • Communicate clearly and openly with patients and coworkers.

  • Take initiative for professional growth and engage in team-building activities.
  • Review patient registration to ensure completeness.
  • Verify all insurance and document it in the Practice Management System/EMR.
  • Maintain current surgery criteria with insurance providers and inform staff of updates.
  • Initiate patients into the surgery pipeline and schedule consultations with surgeons.
  • Communicate insurance benefits, deductibles, and financial responsibilities to patients.
  • Secure pre-determinations and pre-certifications for procedures.
  • Handle physician referrals and ensure proper documentation in the system.
  • Prepare and submit Letters of Medical Necessity and ensure completion of insurance criteria and medical clearances.
  • Communicate insurance approval to patients, collect fees, and schedule pre-op consultations and follow-up appointments.
  • Manage appeals and denials in conjunction with patient care.
  • Participate in patient education seminars and assist in preparing for events.
  • Support other staff members to deliver high-quality patient care.
