The Department of Surgery is currently seeking a full-time Surgical Care Coordinator to work on-site in Miami. The Surgical Care Coordinator manages the administrative aspects of patient care and serves as the liaison between surgical scheduling team, hospital, surgeons and nursing care teams, and different departments within the medical school/hospital. The Surgical Care Coordinator organizes and manages complex multidisciplinary care of various surgical programs. CORE RESPONSIBILITIES This position oversees daily surgical and multi-disciplinary clinical care coordination of various surgical specialties. Duties include coordinating surgical appointments of complex, urgent multidisciplinary care, helping patients understand complex medical information, assisting patients understand admission and discharge information (pre and post-surgical patient education materials) Assists in the process of developing interdisciplinary surgical/clinical program guidelines to promote surgical program effectiveness, productivity and efficiency. This position works with other health care professionals to ensure plan of care is documented and communicated. Communicates to patients in a manner that instills understanding and confidence about their upcoming procedure. Present treatment to patients and secure financial arrangements (must be comfortable presenting high dollar treatment plans). Expediting administrative requirements for patient referrals, ensuring that appropriate referrals are made to participating providers with the patients’ health plan, obtaining appointments for Specialist visits, and notifying the patient/member of the appointment. Notifies patients of authorization status and inquiries in a consistent and professional matter. Resolves problems and concerns of all patients/physicians/staff with confidence and control in a timely manner. Help patients apply for 3rd party financing to help pay for treatment (CareCredit, Lending Club, Etc.) Maintains complete and up-to-date documentation and files at all times, including product and service quotes. Collaborates with inpatient/outpatient staff to ensure a safe transition of care including follow up visits with primary care physician and/or specialist.
