About the position

The Surgical Care Assistant at Regions Hospital plays a vital role in supporting the nursing staff by preparing patients for surgery and assisting them post-operatively. This part-time position involves direct patient care across various age groups, ensuring a smooth surgical experience and maintaining a clean and organized environment in the surgical area.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare patients for surgery and assist them after surgery under the direction of the Charge Nurse and Nurse Manager.
  • Perform daily activities such as bathing, repositioning, and assisting with patient transports.
  • Help patients to the bathroom and room them upon arrival for surgery and discharge.
  • Transport patients to their cars after discharge.
  • Clean and set up surgical rooms and equipment for the next patient.
  • Collect patient data, including vital signs and weights.
  • Perform glucose testing as needed.
  • Restock supplies in the surgical area.

Requirements

  • Valid BLS certification and completion of a nursing assistant program, or
  • Experience in an acute care or long-term care setting as a Nursing Assistant (minimum of 6 months at .5 FTE), or
  • Completion of one clinical rotation in an RN or LPN program within the last year, or
  • Experience as an Emergency Room Technician (minimum of 6 months at .5 FTE).
  • Experience or nursing assistant education must have occurred within the last five years.

Nice-to-haves

  • Six months of experience in a healthcare setting.
  • Hospital experience is strongly desired.
  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certificate.
