About the position
The Surgical Care Assistant at Regions Hospital plays a vital role in supporting the nursing staff by preparing patients for surgery and assisting them post-operatively. This part-time position involves direct patient care across various age groups, ensuring a smooth surgical experience and maintaining a clean and organized environment in the surgical area.
Responsibilities
- Prepare patients for surgery and assist them after surgery under the direction of the Charge Nurse and Nurse Manager.
- Perform daily activities such as bathing, repositioning, and assisting with patient transports.
- Help patients to the bathroom and room them upon arrival for surgery and discharge.
- Transport patients to their cars after discharge.
- Clean and set up surgical rooms and equipment for the next patient.
- Collect patient data, including vital signs and weights.
- Perform glucose testing as needed.
- Restock supplies in the surgical area.
Requirements
- Valid BLS certification and completion of a nursing assistant program, or
- Experience in an acute care or long-term care setting as a Nursing Assistant (minimum of 6 months at .5 FTE), or
- Completion of one clinical rotation in an RN or LPN program within the last year, or
- Experience as an Emergency Room Technician (minimum of 6 months at .5 FTE).
- Experience or nursing assistant education must have occurred within the last five years.
Nice-to-haves
- Six months of experience in a healthcare setting.
- Hospital experience is strongly desired.
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certificate.
