About The Position

Duties/Responsibilities: Initiate authorization for surgery promptly. Obtain authorization for surgery at least 48 hours before the procedure. If authorization is not obtained within 48 hours of the procedure, make plans to reschedule the procedure. Contact insurance company to see if authorization is needed for injections. Obtain authorization and document in chart Work with Medical Assistants and advise them of the status of authorization Maintain copies of request and the results Perform related work as required and other projects and duties as assigned Assist in insurance verification process Contact patient to obtain accurate insurance information Participate in educational activities and attend monthly staff meetings

Requirements

  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Medical Terminology.
  • Knowledge of anatomy and physiology as it relates to orthopedics, podiatry, and pain management.
  • Basic typing and keyboarding skills.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Familiarity with computers and other office equipment.
  • Ability to prioritize responsibilities.
  • Must be able to act calmly and effectively in busy or stressful situations.
  • Knowledge of insurance plans and procedures.
  • Requires adherence to all policies and procedures, including standards for safety, attendance, punctuality and personal appearance.
  • Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with managers and peers.
  • Maintains accurate and strict confidentiality of patient information in accordance with HIPAA Compliance of electronic and/or manual systems as established by the appropriate HIPAA protocols, regulations, and policies.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Requires manual dexterity to operate a keyboard, calculator, photocopier, and other office equipment.
  • Requires occasional lifting up to 15 pounds unassisted.  Requires frequent bending, reaching and repetitive hand movements, standing, walking, squatting and sitting.
  • Ability to view computer screens for long periods of time.
