About The Position

Medworks is hiring a Surgical Assistant or Certified Surgical Technologist to join our surgical support team serving hospitals and surgery centers throughout the greater Richmond, VA area. In this mobile, hands-on role, you will travel between client sites to support surgical teams and operate specialty surgical equipment during procedures. Depending on your certification and experience, you may assist surgeons directly during procedures or support the surgical team by preparing sterile instruments, maintaining the sterile field, and ensuring operating room readiness. You’ll play a critical role in the operating room by helping ensure each case proceeds safely, efficiently, and smoothly. From preparing sterile instruments to assisting surgeons and operating Medworks equipment, your work directly contributes to positive patient outcomes.

Requirements

  • Candidates must hold one of the following certifications:
  • Surgical Technologist
  • Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) through NBSTSA or an equivalent accredited organization
  • Surgical Assistant
  • Certified Surgical Assistant (CSA)
  • Certified First Assistant (CFA)
  • Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA)
  • Surgical Assistant–Certified (SA-C)
  • Strong knowledge of surgical procedures, instrumentation, and sterile technique
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced clinical environment
  • Excellent communication, organization, and teamwork skills
  • Reliable transportation and ability to travel between facilities

Nice To Haves

  • Prior surgical technologist or surgical assistant experience
  • Experience in urology, gynecology, or general surgery
  • Experience working in hospitals or ambulatory surgery centers

Responsibilities

  • Prepare operating rooms by setting up sterile instruments, surgical equipment, and supplies
  • Assist surgeons and surgical teams during procedures according to your certification and scope of practice
  • Anticipate surgeon and team needs during procedures and respond efficiently
  • Maintain aseptic technique and adhere to infection control standards
  • Support patient positioning, draping, and sterile field maintenance
  • Operate and monitor Medworks rental lasers and other specialty surgical equipment
  • Communicate clearly with surgeons, nurses, and operating room staff
  • Assist with post-procedure clean-up, equipment breakdown, and restocking
  • Complete required documentation and accurately track equipment usage
