The Surgical Aide assists the nursing staff with direct and indirect nursing care activities as well as environmental cleaning responsibilities. The Surgical Aide provides a safe, visibly clean environment and works under the direction of a Registered Nurse. As an integral part of the healthcare team, the Surgical Aide is responsible for maintaining a safe environment in which quality patient care is delivered. Prioritization of patient care tasks and communication with healthcare team members are essential to this role.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED

Nice To Haves

  • Current CPR certification
  • Housekeeping experience

Responsibilities

  • Communicates patient care concerns to appropriate personnel.
  • Matches scheduled procedures to surgical preference cards.
  • Picks instruments and supplies, checks for specialty equipment, and prepares the OR bed.
  • Brings in all necessary supplies, instruments, and equipment.
  • Assists nursing staff in rooms as directed.
  • Transfers patients using proper body mechanics.
  • Assists with positioning and prepping patients under RN or MD direction.
  • Retrieves additional supplies and transports specimens.
  • Assists with post-surgical patient transfers.
  • Cleans OR and equipment per policy.
  • Removes unneeded specialty equipment.
  • Resets room furnishings and prioritizes room turnover.
  • Provides help across all areas as needed.
  • Maintains a safe, visibly clean environment between cases.
  • Follows environmental cleaning guidelines.
  • Stocks warmers, maintains cleanliness in core areas, locker rooms, and lounge.
  • Maintains adequate supply of scrubs and linens.
  • Restocks room and core supplies daily and as needed.
  • Picks up and delivers supplies.
  • Performs pharmacy pick-ups as needed.
  • Applies knowledge of growth and development stages to patient care.
  • Demonstrates age-appropriate communication and support.
